TOLA History

In 2016, Old Mutual Alternative Investment representatives approached the Directors of the 2 Oceans Education Foundation; upon review of their successes with the free and low-cost models of schooling and offered a partnership which would see the establishment of a technologically driven school for the child of the 21st Century. In 2017 an event was held to formalise the partnership and present the plan for the 2 Oceans Education Foundation and the Old Mutual Alternative Investment partnership school. The product of this partnership gave birth to the Two Oceans Leadership Academy (TOLA).

In September of 2017, CEO of the Cape Flats Development Association at the time completed the official handover of the keys to the premises to representatives of the 2 Oceans Education Foundation (2OEF) and Old Mutual Alternative Investments (OMAI).

Thereafter the demolition process of the premises began and it took about 11 months for the first building to be completed. Upon completion, TOLA hosted various open days to introduce an affordable, top quality school to the community of Grassy Park.

In 2018, TOLA welcomed its inaugural class of 67 aspiring leaders.

Since then we have grown to teaching over 400 leaders in one academic year, and it makes us very nostalgic to remember the rich history of our school.

”For 5 years the Old Mutual Alternative Investments (Schools investment fund) were in talks with us (Two Oceans Education Foundation) to join forces and build a sustainable school for the area of Grassy Park. The Fund financed our schools campus, infrastructure as well as education and administrative requirements we had. But our dual objective was always to deliver quality education at an affordable price.”- Moulana Ali Adam (Co-Director)

And it is through the dedicated staff of the Leadership Academy that we are delivering on our objectives set out by our co-directors.

Our Success

Our success stems from the level of interaction between our leaders and the educators, the high standard of work our leaders produce, and the resources that enables them to do just that.

Our Campus

The Two Oceans Leadership Academy’s campus was designed to enhance academic excellence with a clean and simple layout to assist with easy movement of leaders from class to class. Our campus offer visually stimulating classrooms and clear accessibility to the apparatuses used by our educators (mainly in the Montessori and Foundation Phase), spacious (covid-19 compliant) seating as well as a beautiful open air Astroturf, skate park and soccer pitch. We added a library and computer lab to enable our leaders (from the senior and FET phases) to conduct research on topics for assessments and tasks.
